TECH - TASK Experience Center for Hi -TECH

TECH helps you and your child assess technology that may increase your child's accessibility and independence.

TECH gives individuals with disabilities and their families the opportunity to explore computer hardware and software to determine what is most effective in achieving accessibility and independence. TECH services are also available to adults with disabilities.

As an Alliance for Technology Access member, TECH offers up-to-date information and consultation on computer technology.

TECH is partially funded by membership fees, donations, grants and gifts.

Appointments are available for individual TECH consultations. A consultation with the Technology Coordinator will include an exploration of Assistive Technology (AT) in an effort to assist the individual in the identification of appropriate technology to facilitate achievement of desired goals and objectives. The consultation fee is $80 per person, and is due prior to the appointment date. Please ask about our cancellation policy.

TASK membership fee entitles members to check out certain software for 1 month. A $50 deposit is required for each title.

TECH offers unstructured labs that give children (accompanied by their parents) the opportunity to use TASK computers to explore computer technology in a relaxed atmosphere. Labs are held twice a week plus one Saturday a month. TECH labs are free to TASK members. There is a $10 fee to non-member families. Pre-registration is required - Walk-ins are not accepted.

Homework Support Through Technology" is Finally Here!

The goal of our "Homework Support Through Technology" program is to help children complete their homework. The program is free of charge. Homework help will be available on and off the computer, depending on the need. Suggestions and possible solutions to help students complete their assignments will be given. Some of the technology available will include: screen readers (for visual impairments and learning disabilities) such as Kurzweil 3000 and WYNN, talking word processors such as IntelliTalk II and Write Outloud, CCTV's (video magnifiers) for low vision, as well as an assortment of software, adaptive keyboards, alternative mice, etc.

Children must be signed up ahead of time and parents must sign and return a tutoring agreement. If all the spots are filled, you will be put on a waiting list and notified when a tutoring slot is available. Parents or guardians must accompany their children and stay the entire tutoring period. If you are interested in applying for this program, please call (714) 533-8275 as soon as possible to be placed on the waiting list. We look forward to meeting with you and your child/children.

The after school tutoring program is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-4:30pm.
